Randy Kummler
Chief Executive Officer / Chief Financial Officer
Randy grew up in Maryland, Pennsylvania, and Michigan, and attended Wayne State University where he earned a BA in Finance and an MBA. Randy has worked in health care for over 35 years in various accounting and finance positions including CFO. He has been with Genesys PHO since 2019 as CFO, and was promoted to his current role as of 2020. Randy’s interests include exercise, sports, investments, financial planning, and spending time with family.
Wendy Upthegrove
Chief Operating Officer / Compliance Officer
Wendy is a native to Otisville, MI and raised her family there. She earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from Baker College. With over 25 years working in Healthcare in a variety of settings, she provides the PHO with a unique perspective on success in Provider offices, rising to the challenge of a changing Primary Care environment, and partnering with multiple health plans. Wendy worked for Genesys PHO previously and returned to assume the role of Vice President of Physician Services. Wendy has a true passion for working with Providers and offices solving complex issues, establishing best practices and creating multi-disciplinary teams. It is that passion and dedication which led to her current position as COO. Her interests include traveling, attending Detroit Tigers games, boating, gardening and spending time with family.
Jennifer Humphreys
Vice President, Medical Management
Jennifer is from northern Illinois and attended Millikin University where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. With over 25 years of experience in healthcare, Jennifer’s diverse background spans direct patient care, management, and managed care. Prior to her current role at Genesys PHO, she served as a nurse clinician at Ascension Genesys Hospital. Since joining Genesys PHO, Jennifer has strived to work on improving the health of our community. She has expertise in Utilization Management and provides leadership and support to various programs at Genesys PHO, including CoCM and Care Management. Jennifer has made Grand Blanc her home for over 20 years, living with her husband and three children. She takes great pride in serving the community she lives in. She enjoys gardening, sports, hiking, and spending time with her family.
Nate Buchholz
Vice President, Information Systems
After spending his earliest years along the coast in Virginia, Nate loves all four seasons. He finished his BS in Management of Information Systems at Baker College. In the 20+ years he has served at the PHO, he brings to the role a wealth of technology leadership, health information security, and strategy experience. Throughout his executive career, Nate has led successful complex digital transformational change and evolution. The hallmarks of his recent tenure are establishing an enterprise architecture capability, modernizing many foundational systems and platforms, and a focus on improved vendor and project management. He has a true passion for data and how data is leveraged to solve problems, improve workflows, and extend value and security to our patients. Nate enjoys time with family and friends. In his spare time, he has also served on the Mott Community College’s Information Technology Advisory since 2013 - his service compliments his interest in digital manufacturing and artificial intelligence.
Sarah Gouine
Vice President, Physician Services
Sarah was born and raised in Lapeer and is now local to Genesee county. She earned her Bachelor of Business Administration from Walsh College and her Master of Business Administration from Davenport University. Her entire healthcare career has been dedicated to provider relations and she has worked in various settings, including primary care, specialty care, ancillary facilities, and payer settings. Sarah's greatest passion for her work is, and always has been, to ensure that all of the moving pieces of healthcare work together to maximize outcomes for all parties involved. Sarah's interests include attending concerts and sporting events, and trying out new restaurants.
Shannon Smith
Vice President, Revenue Cycle Management
Shannon grew up in Davison, MI. She earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Healthcare Administration from Baker College. With over 25 years working in Healthcare and more than 15 years at the PHO, Shannon is an experienced and knowledgeable leader. She is a Certified Professional Coder and Certified Physician Practice Manager who successfully trains her staff from that foundation up. She is passionate about learning new things and loves to focus on streamlining processes and creating more efficient processes within her department. Shannon faces the challenge head on of continually changing guidelines from the payers and truly enjoys the necessary problem solving that naturally arises in her work. Her interests include boating, reading and spending time with friends and family.
